Cone Hut

A real old-timer- fortunately the powers-that-be have decided to preserve this one. The Totora slab construction used to be more common in my (younger) day(s).

Atiwhakatu Hut

Another hut from the days before they were replaced with motels infested with lycra-clad poofters who don't even know what a Swandri looks like and have never cooked over burning wood!

It's still there and the access is even easy enough for an old broken-arse to hobble in!

Waiotauru Hut

Used this as a base camp for many a hunting trip. Quite a few beer-drinking trips too!

Kapakapanui Hut

I have fond memories of this hut. It was the first one I visited in the Tararuas in 1976.

I well remember the rat in my mattress that had to be killed before bedtime!

WWI Memorial

117 Linden Trees were planted here after WWI. Each representing a dead serviceman from this town.

The town now has a population of about 2000. It was smaller then...

Fantasyland

Another lotto fantasy- Charteris Bay, Lyttlton Harbour.

This is my writer's retreat.

Shame about the cables, but with a lotto win, they could (must) be made to go away!

Akitio Beach

A beach so far out in the sticks that you could afford to buy a section there!

Off the usual topic- Riding for the Disabled

I want to take the opportunity to give thanks to all those involved with Riding for the Disabled.

My little boy really gets excited about his weekly visit. I don't ever recall seeing him sit in the same spot for so long! (outside of a moving car, anyway!)

My thanks for the pleasure you people bring to some rather bleak lives...

Donations are gratefully accepted

Wairarapa Surf

Did I mention some of the best surf outside of Hawaii?

The location is a well-kept secret, but I accept sizable bribes!

Mt Taranaki

This was sent in by one of my readers and I thought it well worth posting!

Thanks!
